Counseling

We want to help you and your children navigate the emotional toll of sexual violence and domestic assault.

The Abbie therapists specialize in all forms of trauma, grief, and loss, providing unique expertise in the implications and additional complexities that surviving domestic or sexual violence can add to someone’s mental health needs. Our therapists are qualified to treat many mental health diagnoses, most frequently treating PTSD, acute stress disorder, anxiety and depressive disorders, bi-polar disorders, and personality disorders. The theoretical foundations and frameworks used in Abbie mental health services are attachment, psychodynamic, trauma-informed, strength-based/empowerment, family systems, CBT and DBT.  EMDR is available. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Our counseling:

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING

We offer FREE individual counseling services to survivors of domestic & sexual violence, provided by a counselor with specific training in these issues. Individual counseling is extremely beneficial (and can be vital) for recovery from violent and traumatic experiences.

WEEKLY SUPPORT GROUP

Our weekly Support Group for victims & survivors of domestic and sexual violence is facilitated by a trained professional and focuses on education, healing, and empowerment. Participants in Support Group report feeling a sense of encouragement and camaraderie that help them feel less alone in their journey. Group meets on Tuesday nights at 6:00pm, with a family-style meal served at 5:30pm.

CHILDREN'S PROGRAM

Our Children’s Program meets at the same time as Support Group and provides safe and loving child care for children while their parent attends group. With a high adult to child ratio and activities that focus on healthy communication, our children program advocates are trained to care for children who have experienced trauma.
